Natural Family Photography in McLaren Vale & Port Willunga

Ten years ago, I photographed Katie and Chris’s wedding at Serafino. This year, they returned to celebrate their anniversary with their two girls, and I got to photograph all four of them. We started beneath the big gums and between the familiar rows of trees, with cuddles, running races and the kind of gloriously chaotic fun that makes family photographs actually feel like family photographs. We also recreated one of Katie and Chris’s wedding portraits in the same place, ten years later. πŸ₯Ή

Then we headed to Port Willunga Beach. The day had been heavy and overcast, and for most of the session the sky stayed soft and grey. But right at the end, while the girls spun, played in the sand and raced along the beach, the clouds opened into the most spectacular pink sunset. Honestly, what a show-off. 😍

This session wasn’t about asking anyone to perform or making two young children stand still and smile on cue. It was about photographing this family as they are right now: the laughter, movement, hugs, beautiful chaos and the way they so clearly love being together. No performance required. Just them, right now, with one recreated wedding photograph and a whole lot more life around them.
